PERFORMANCES

Collaboration with Museum of Now

Curated by Denis Leo Hegic

The series, “No One Left”, “Don’t Cross”, “Find Now”, “Monument”, and “The Public Sphere” encompasses five performative interventions that unfolded both within the exhibition space and on the streets of Berlin. These interventions marked the conclusion of Pasha’s 2019 residency at the Museum of Now. Inspired by archetypal forms, Pasha crafted choreographic interventions that intricately layered meaning with considerations of space and form.

The presented works are one-of-a-kind performative pieces, engaged in real-time interaction with their immediate surroundings. “No One Left” serves as a cautionary tale, illustrating the potential consequences when one loses touch with their own humanity. In “Don’t Cross”, Pasha conducted an experiment in public space, utilizing his own body as a living element to challenge established boundaries, both physical and metaphorical, within the public sphere.

“Find Now” presents Pasha’s artistic versatility in a fusion of performance, dance, painting, and digital art. Within the performance, the artist delves into the experience of graffiti-making – an art form inherently defined by its ephemerality in exterior spaces. Here, Pasha reverses the creative process, crafting a three-dimensional graffiti work enclosed within the confines of a box, an artwork that will forever remain concealed from the public eye.

In “Monument” Pasha Cas challenged the conventional concept of monuments, which are often perceived as large and imposing structures in public spaces. In his performative act, Pasha recreated a “Monument” from a red carpet originally used to welcome visitors at the entrance of the Museum of Now by draping it around his own body in the heart of Karl-Marx-Allee in Berlin, and transforming himself into a living monument.

“The Public Sphere” culminated in a choreographed circle created through the repetition of movements and patterns. In the course of the performance, a circle was painted on the ground, with the artist positioned at its dramatic zenith, an isolated figure in the center of the circle. The audience, mindful of the painted boundary, remained on the periphery, refraining from encroachment, while the artist was left isolated and alone.
